(A message for the first lady District Supervisor of Tigbauan on the occasion of the Welcome Program for her on February 24,1997)
Ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon.
I can see that our new administrator is a lady, but I know that as a leader, she must have the heart of an amazon, so, when I was asked for some lines to ponder , I chose the lines of the two world famous generals:
The first line was said by the American general, Gen. Patton. He said , "No bastard ever won the war by dying for his country, but by letting poor other bastards fight and die for him "
Madam, not all the teachers here are poor, and not all the teachers here are bastards ; but all the teachers here can fight_ for you ! _American work for you, I mean ,, IF..._if you ponder on the lines of the greatest American general, George Washington. When after a series of dreadful battles , he assembled his handful of men that were left. Some were lame, some were wounded, others were famished, many were sick , and there were those who were untrained. After looking at each one from head to foot, he said, "Well, with all of you fine gentlemen here, we will win the war!" Upon hearing this, the lame, the wounded, the famished , the sick and the untrained suddenly stood erect and with great courage on their worn out faces , answered, "Yes! we will win the war !" And they did win the war, and so was born a new nation called United States of America, where he became its first President.
Madam , I look forward with optimism, to the day when you shall tell this very same group that _ you came , you saw and you were conquered by the excellence of this district which you yourself have shaped just as how Pygmalion sculptured Galatea.
And to my fellow teachers, remember that administrators are like different kinds of music. You , as Tigbauanon, , had been known ever since to be good dancers, so hold your line and dance to every music. If you stumble, just pick yourself up as if nothing happened and go on. After all, only a worm is free from the worry of stumbling ; and no one here, I am sure, would like to be called a worm.
I leave my lines unexplained ,because I am talking to intelligent people . Besides, if I explain there would be nothing more to ponder _or wonder.
Lastly to borrow another line from the bible, I say _Madam, behold your people . Teachers of Tigbauan, here is your Leader. Mabuhay!
