A Tribute to Miss Bernardita Terre Tayona

(Rendered during the program to honor the retirees a decade ago )

Miss Bernardita Tayona aptly fits the title, "small but terrible", because this small lady has a terrible capacity for loving her work. Even if, in some instances, when the doctor advised her to take a vacation leave and have some rest from tedious work as a Home Economics teacher, she would return to school and look after her classroom and the children.
Indeed, she is a rare kind of teacher who is small in size but big in ideas. She has developed pupils who excelled in interschool competitions in different fields because of the knowledge she has poured into their head.
Born on the day when the International Day for Women is being celebrated, she is an example of a woman who is not the wilting wallflower type, but rather, a productive and powerful mainstay of society. Just like the simple farm lass of Lourdes, France, who made the miraculous spring flow eternally, so that the people may avail of the blessing of God, Miss Bernadette Tayona, also allowed the spring of knowledge and virtues to flow into the young minds of the children, because aside from teaching them about the crafts and sciences, she also awakened their devotion to God sa "Chidren of Mary" (Hijas de Maria).
Actually, because her blessed deeds are many her state in life is supposed to be "blessed singleness" .instead of single blessedness. Bernardita, the little smart lady of Bagumbayan Elementary School, had most appropriately lived up to her beautiful name, worthy of remembering in the calendar of effective and efficient teachers of the district of Tigbauan.
