Eulogy to Jovita Tubong Tangente

January 9, 2019
Your death, my friend,is God's affectionate way
To release you from all the pains that afflict those with foot of clay;
And though great is our desire that you should stay,
His will is done; nothing, no one can change destiny.

You left us; softly, quietly,you did go,
In the advent of spring,when the year was quite new;
Those whose lives you have touched grieve it so ,
Because your departure was sudden, known only to a few

The day you came as a teacher,you were the children's guardian,
Sloth walked away in murmuring defiance,
Because you coaxed everyone to keep a busy hand,
Yet you tempered hard work with wholesome fun.

I have seen how you taught the children efficiently,
You coached them patiently till you impart the lesson effectively,
Their naughtiness have not shaken your enthusiasm relentlessly,
You were strict but kind, stern , yet friendly.

Many a time I saw you train a declaimer,
You harnessed her skill, till she did better;
Like gold, you polished well till she would glitter,
You shapen her to be an achiever and a fighter.

I heard your voice from across the room of mine,
Persuading the children time and again to study harder;
Untiringly,you moulded the mind and the character,
Hoping that each year the harvest will be better.

Your goal, your dream was to see an enlightened generation,
To heave the shadow of ignorance was your mission;
Stoic as a Spartan mother in your conviction,
You waged your crusade for a quality education.

I stand witness to your diligence and loyalty,
You toiled hard and long and stretched the day,
You hastened yourself to wear and tear in service to community,
Unmindful of your labor being uncredited and buried in obscurity.

You mingled with us, dined with us, talked with us,
Many times ,pleasant stories from you I heard;
Great lessons in life to everyone you shared,
Wanting to guide, to show the light because you cared.

Your life was an amazing drama of love and devotion,
You earnestly chose and embraced the noble profession;
Every hard work was your silent prayer of aspiration,
Quality education was your vision turned into an obsession.

You were the so-called "life of the party",
The one who always made others see the brighter side of day
Through your laughter ,cheerful disposition and good nature,
Your jokes set a jolly mood and a good sense of humor.

I found in you an ever concerned friend,
A mentor and a sympathizer always ready to defend;
I saw in you a very principled person,
With no "crab mentality",putting others' welfare ahead of your own.

God has given you as a gift to your friends and family,
You loved and cared for them in a very special way
You were the one they can lean on when they are weary,
You stood by their side through thick and thin , come what may.

My dear friend,on this lonely afternoon,
We gather ,and with sorrow unspoken, we mourn
Clutching your memory as a precious token,we are forlorn,
But with a crown of sweet remembering,your life we adorn.

This world is never meant for your eternal home,
Time has come for you to go to Our Father's heavenly dome;
Though we are huddled around you , tear-drenched and anguish-torn,
We have to let go of you,so you can follow the light that shone.

Our grief, my friend, is a tender compassionate expression,
For now that you are gone,we lost a friend,a mentor and a sister in profession;
Though we may lean over you, mournful and heart-broken,
Let not our tears hold you back from your journey to heaven.

In your journey to your reunion with the Almighty,
We will light candles to brighten your way;
We will bring flowers to wrap you in fragrant sanctity,
And a fervent prayer for your repose ,we will say.

We promise all these for you, my friend,
But I am sorry, I am not as strong- hearted as you;
I cannot promise I will not weep,
Because the pain in my heart , I cannot keep.

Sleep now you,our beloved departed one,
Follow the mystical light that shall take you to the Great Beyond;
Go now,home to Our Divine Creator, my friend,
As we live in remembering the memories you left behind.

Farewell, our one time colleague ,our comrade and sister in profession,
Goodbye, my big sister,my teasured friend.
