Himno sang Tigbauan
The Official Municipal Hymn of Tigbauan.
On June 13,1998 Mayor Myrna M. Torres made me listen to a song, "Miagao March" ,through a cassette tape inside her car. Then, she told me, "So-on, ang Miagao may hymn, ang Tigbauan iya, wala? Gawan mo rin, ha? Mas gandahan mo pa dyan!" I laughed at her request, but I promised I will. The next day, I wrote an eight-stanza lyric poem ,with the title "Martsa sang Tigbauan".The mayor was overjoyed upon reading it.She asked, "How much?" I answered, "Not everything in this world is measured by "how much", "She then requested Miss Loreto Tenefrancia to set it to music. Miss Tenefrancia composed a melody that resonates the vivacious temperament of the Tigbauanons for the lyrics and had Prof. Romulo J. Pangan do the arrangement. Mayor Myrna M. Torres had the hymn sung for the first time by the St. Cecilia's Choir on her oath-taking ceremony on June 30, 1998. She preferred to name it Himno sang Tigbauan to be different from Martsa sang Miagao.
On August 31,1998, The Sangguniang Bayan of Tigbauan approved SB Resolution No.98-054 Adopting Himno sang Tigbauan as the Official Hymn of the Municipality of Tigbauan. On Sept. 9,1999 , Memorandum No.99-010 was sent to all schools obliging the inclusion of the singing of Himno sang Tigbauan in school programs and activities. All administrators were directed to require the pupils or students to memorize the hymn. A copy and tape record of the song was furnished to every school and barangay council.
Last October 2013, a fine gentleman came to our house. With out even telling his name, he handed me a written resolution and said, "Pirmahan mo kuno dya". I went over the papers and came across the line, "Whereas,we have made a little revision..." I told him, "I will not sign this because I have not seen the revision . No one has the right to revise my work without my knowledge and consent. " He snatched the document from my hand and went away without saying goodbye.
I am not adept in legalities, but I know professional ethics, delicadesa, decorum, copyright and plagiarism . I wrote the hymn for the love of Tigbauan. The words are not there just by accident.Their stress resound laughter of the waves that lap the Tigbauan shores, the rustling of the palm leaves in the kanyugan, the giggling ripples of the Sibalum River and the sighing of the fully-laden rice strands as they are swept by the amihan breeze. This is called iambus (Greek) and onomatopoeia. Now, if they do not like my work, they should make their own, but no words, phrase or line shall be taken from my lyrics.
That resolution which I was asked to sign, will discredit the authors of the Resolution No.98-059 and efface the memory of the person who first conceived the idea of having a municipal hymn for Tigbauan. How sad. Suppose every time the country has a new president, the national anthem will be revised, what do you think would Jose Palma say, if he were alive to this day?
People should avoid messing up with a writer (take a lesson from Rizal;the Noli and Fili are still being read today, here and abroad.) because the whole world might read about their blunder, or they will be immortalized in books. till this deteriorating planet of ours is reduced to dust and the dinosaurs that will repopulate this after us, will dig up their story from the archives and read it. The poor creatures might be scandalized.
